On 4th August 2015, Safaricom introduced a new messaging regulation that requires all promotional bulk SMS messages to provide a means of opt-out.

To comply with this regulation Uwazii MOBILE through Safaricom supports a USSD code which a subscriber can dial and they will be provided opt-out to STOP receiving further messages from an alphanumeric Sender ID.

To inform the subscribers of the possibility of opting out we automatically add an opt-out option to all messages that are terminated through our gateway towards the Safaricom network. We automatically append a 13 character long suffix 'STOP*456*9*5#' at the end of every bulk SMS message. It is important to take this into consideration when calculating the length of your message.
